Robert's journey into Higher Education began by chance when he arrived in Finland to find his expected job had vanished. Rather than succumbing to disappointment, he embraced a teaching role at a local Ammattikorkeakoulu (University of Applied Science). In this unexpected setting, Robert discovered his true calling after a diverse career path. Now recently retired from a full-time position at one of the UK’s dynamic regional universities, he reflects on his remarkable journey with gratitude, feeling as though he has won life's lottery by finding his vocation—bringing him joy and fulfilment. Innovation has always been central to Robert's educational approach; it forms the foundation for effective learning. Specialising in business strategy with a focus on franchising as an expansion model, he plans to share his knowledge through guest lectures post-retirement. As Socrates said, “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old but on building the new.” His career has spanned multiple countries including Finland, the Netherlands, Czechia, Poland, France, Russia, and the USA—a testament to his passion for education and international teaching. Through these experiences, Robert embodies lifelong learning and commitment that inspires students and colleagues worldwide.
